There is DIY Sweepstakes that is coming to a close for the Blog Cabin 2013. Have you entered to win?

Recently, I was relaxing on the couch and flipping through the Xfinity On Demand options and I came across Blog Cabin hosted by Chris Grundy. I blog. I like cabins. So, I thought, let’s give this show a try. It was new to me, but the show has been around for 7 seasons. The premise is that folks can vote online for the features that they would like to see in the home. Then, the home is renovated and documented on shows like Mega Dens, Kitchen Crashers, Bathroom Crashers, Yard Crashers, House Crashers, and Desperate Landscapes. I happened across a few episodes and loved watching the layout of the house come together.

Burlap wainscoting in the bathroom was one touch that caught my eye and having a wooden shower. The type of wood that was selected was chosen because of its water resistant nature and I liked how the audience was choosing items that really brought the outside in. While the before bathroom was cute and “cabiny”, I feel like that new bathroom would make you want to stay in that tub under the skylight for half the day. I like how they pulled in the feel of the ocean and the sand into the colors too. Well voted, viewers!

The cabin this year is located in Atlantic, NC on three acres. They made sure that it has Hurricane Bronze Certification when it was redone, which is a great feature for that area. For green living features, they reused a bunch of materials in the house, such as doors and a lot of reclaimed wood. They also allow you to check out the paint colors as your take the tour of the house online. Sherwin Williams paints were used, which means that you can find colors for your own home and use their Eco Select VOC Free Interior Paint if you want to keep VOCs at bay in your own home. Bamboo flooring is used in the home as well, which is a sustainable type of flooring since it is a renewable resource that replenishes itself quickly. Another good green point in the home is the media room, which doubles as a guest room with Murphy beds. Its always good to have dual purpose rooms and I like that Mega Dens host, Anitra Mecadon said she wanted to “use as much of the original house as possible in our builds and two, to bring the outside in.”

There are a little less than 10 days left to enter to win the home. You can enter twice a day through the DIY sweepstakes page. Best of luck to everyone and take a moment to check out the tour above.

What features of the home do you like best?

I love watching homes or cabins be renovated on TV. Great one. Sharing the contest as well.

Well, I have to say what I like best is that they’re using VOC free paint! I only just learned about this, which is weird since we are big on being nontoxic, but I’m glad I did. Worth it, and I’m so happy to see big networks spreading the word about using safer products.

I love the colors that they used and how it feels like they brought the outside in.
