Disclosure: I was provided with a deck of Boom Boom! cards for review. All opinions and eco-friendly excitement are my own.
Clearly from writing this blog, I love to pass along little tidbits about how we live green.
It’s been a twenty plus year journey for me and I still find more ways for us to be a healthier and eco-friendlier family. Family and friends are often asking for advice and sometimes a conversation may help them along, but writing it down is an even better way to remember advice. So, when I came across boom Boom! cards, I thought they would be a fun and entertaining way to pass along green tips.
boom Boom! cards are a set of 26 trackable cards that share information about how to live green. The company makes a variety of card decks that utilize social media and are intended to facilitate kindness and intentional living. When you get your set of cards, you can login to the website and register the deck. Once the deck is registered, you start to go through the deck and make the intentional changes in your life.
When you complete a task, you login again and tell your story about how you adapted your life. You can share videos and photos too in order to share your tips to live green. After uploading your story, you pass the card along to another person and they complete the task. They can login and register the card, record their story and then pass it along again. By logging in the deck and card, you can track where in the world your card is and how far reaching the effort is.
As a former teacher, I love this idea and can think of how exciting it could be for a class that is studying United States and world geography to get involved with tracking the cards. It would be a great way to teach social justice and do an interdisciplinary unit with social studies, science, math and language arts. Homeschooling families and groups could go really far with this. The Earth Day study and extension activities are endless! They are also a ton of fun for family gatherings and reunions. Buy one deck, each family member gets a card or two and you can keep in touch on the website to see how they progress. I may take my deck with me to Type A Advanced in April and see where they go.
The tips in the green deck range from rethinking what you do with used clothes instead of throwing them in the trash to reading The Lorax with a child and discussing the book. They are good, concrete steps to helping you to live green and the “pay it forward” style adds a great appeal to folks. The cards are also printed on recycled paper with a soy based ink and when you register your deck, you can choose a charity to which 10% of the profit of the cards will be donated. So, where can you buy them? They are available through the website and these retail locations. The cards are $9.99 a deck and the store also offers other goods such as notecards and reusable totes. If you are looking for other boom Boom! decks, you can try the Original, Family and Teen deck. The Everyday boom Boom! cards are a virtual way to record good deeds and acts of kindness that you are a part of or the recipient. Finally, there is an app for that! The boom Boom! app just handles the Everyday set for now, but version 2 will support all of the cards.
So, what deck would you use and how would you use it?

What a cool idea! I think kids would love the idea of tracking where the cards end up.
It makes for a great geography unit!
it’s a good way to keep your self accountable for things you want to do more green and clean
I like that they have you take it one step at a time instead of diving headfirst into too much at once.
this is a cool thing for kids, my daughter would love to check this out.
It could make for a great lead up to a birthday party and include some cards in a goodie bag for the other kids to pass along.
I love the educational tie-ins. As an English teacher, I could also use them as an idea generator for an Eco-conscious persuasive essay. What a cool product.
Great idea, Kelly!
What a great idea! We’ve been using flashcards with pictures to help our toddler daughter learn new words and she loves it- when she’s a little bigger these would be really fun to use to help her learn more about green living!
I think that you would love these, Annie. They are right up your alley.
