Greenwoman Magazine

by Becky Elmuccio on March 4, 2013

I am excited to be a part of the blog tour for Greenwoman Magazine: A Literary Garden. I have been greatly enjoying the fourth issue of this magazine, which can be read in print or online. Much as I enjoy Downton Abbey as a quiet and lovely getaway in the day, I am really appreciating the opportunity to slow down and appreciate what Greenwoman has to offer.

The magazine has sections of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, commentary, biography and comics. Beautiful nature based artwork is also included in each issue. Those included in this issue are lovely enough to set as your background on your computer or just to pause and enjoy the colors and the brushstrokes. In this issue, I especially liked the Rock Stars of Biology piece, where you had to match the biographies of the scientists with their pictures. As a history major and science lover, I found this to be a cute way to refresh your memories of high school and college classes or to learn more about the scientists that we hear about, like Louis Pasteur.

Another highlight in this issue is an excerpt from Take to the Hills by Margeurite Lyon (circa 1940s), which is a great vintage piece about life on the farm. Poetry about bees and book reviews of gardening and food books also accompany other pieces of writing and round out the collection. In a time when we feel hurried to finish things instantly, this is a lovely throwback to remind us to slow down and enjoy literature and art in the theme of gardening and being green.

If you are interested in checking it out more for yourself, you can try a digital issue for yourself for FREE just by going to www.greenwomanmagazine.com and signing up for the newsletter. Grab your favorite teacup, pour yourself some tea, dust off the hammock and breathe in the spring air while you read the PDF or print versions and enjoy some lovely prose and poetry about life in the garden.

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of issue four for review as a part of the blog tour. All opinions are of my own.

Sounds like a subscription would be a great present for someone you know who is interested in both literature and nature!

Thank you so much for the lovely review of Greenwoman. It is truly a labor of love (I’m the editor/publisher) and the culmination of what I have wanted to do in my life for two decades–turning others on to gardening. I’m so glad you are sharing it with your readers!
