Today’s Locavore Challenge over at Longview Market is the Pancake Challenge. We don’t live in a grain heavy agricultural area, so we can approach being local with pancake ingredients by purchasing locally milled grains and of course, grabbing some of Emerick’s local maple syrup. We were able to grab a variety of items last week when we were in the market. The Asian Pear sauce is canned locally and uses Longview’s organic Asian Pears, which they grow in their orchard. The Tait Farm Foods Multi-Grains Pancake Mix is from central PA and the Frankferd Farms Organic Native Blue Pancake Mix is milled in western PA. With all of these local options, we are certainly looking forward to eating some delicious pancakes this morning!
Disclosure: I am working with Longview to promote their Locavore Challenge, but all opinions and excitement over my breakfast are my own.

Sounds delicious! Are you looking for pancake-testers??? 🙂
These were spectacular, Lindsay. I highly recommend the Tait Farms mix.
Yum! I wish I could have been part of this challenge. That Asian Pear sauce sounds spectacular!
I would think it would be perfect over crepes too, Noelle.
Pancakes I would not think of as being – “local or not local” . . .but I can totally see that now. . .interesting to shift your perspective just a tiny bit. . .and who doesn’t like pancakes??!
Hillary
I hadn’t thought of local milling as a step in living local either, Hillary. But, it’s great to find another local avenue.
it’s amazing the awesome ingredients and foods you are finding.
Longview has been a great source this month!
We love pancakes and always use real grade B maple syrup. Unfortunately there is none that is “local” to us.
We sometimes grab local syrup when we travel to places that have it. I’ve been known to load up in Upstate New York. 🙂
We used to live really close to a grain mill and didn’t even recognize the wonderful resource as a benefit to our health. I wish we lived near one now and could get local grains.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that we had locally milled options. It’s a great addition to our locavore diet.
I LOVE this!!! Local sustainability at its finest! AND…those ingredients look fantastic!
They were, Lauryn! You should definitely see if you can get them out your way.
My kids LOVE pancakes and request them almost every day! This post makes my tummy grumble! 😉
Jeanine, my little one loved these. You should definitely give these a try!
Yum! I should think about buying locally for these kinds of ingredients too. Thanks for highlighting this!
My pleasure! They were a great find and Longview has a whole wall of display space dedicated to these types of ingredients.
I wish every day was pancake day! There’s just something extra delicious about pancakes made with local fresh ingredients, and not just Bisquick 🙂
We have definitely been making multiple days be Pancake Days!
Nice that you could source all of that so close to you. Haw did you find it all?
We have been visiting Longview Market all month to support their Locavore Challenge and these were some of the great items that we found there.
I love this! We’re able to buy local meat and eggs, and I’m sourcing milk and honey – it’s such a difference in freshness!
It truly is!
