I have let some of my hobbies slide by the wayside lately. Knitting and reading have been a big part of my life and I’d like to make them so again. I used to have a ton of books in our bedroom and I cleaned house the other week to get it down to one dresser top. All of the other books have been relegated to the attic for further review. Below is the book that I am starting the New Year with and the hat that I am working on for a friend. I am making her daughter a Sea Beanie cap and it has been a great push for my skills. Tiny needles plus thin yarn and a pattern with cables has been the push I need to get back into what I enjoy doing at night after the day has drawn to a close.
So, my first hobby resolution of 2013 is simply to knit and read more. I would like to turn the TV off at a certain hour and head upstairs to wind down with a good book and my knitting.
What are you planning for your hobbies this year?
I am also linking up with Wordless Wednesday linkys on: small things, Angry Julie Monday, 5 Minutes for Mom and Dagmar’s Momsense.

I think that is such a great goal! I think turning the tv off and knitting will help you wind down at the end of the day and sleep better : )
I hope so! Perhaps I can start to tick some things off my knitting list too.
This is a really great idea! I don’t read much anymore, and I’ve been an avid reader all my life (online research just isn’t the same…) I have so many books I’d like to finish! This shutting-off-the-computer and winding down with a book thing sounds good.
I’m going to try to set a 9:15 cutoff time to get 15-30 minutes of winding down time each night. Wish me luck and good luck with your reading too!
I have so little time to read these days with the kids and my blog but I just linked up my 30 Day Read-To-Your-Child Challenge. I plan on developing a new habit of reading 2 books a day to my children.
Great challenge, Kristen! I can’t wait to check out your post.
I have a radical idea: give away the tv! I read 1-3 hours in the evening, anything from apocalyptic fare (The End of Food, The Energy of Slaves, that sort of thing) to children’s books. We have a family book club, where we talk about the books we’ve been reading much as other people would discuss tv shows.
For the daytime, my goal is to build a cello box, so that we’re not constantly zipping the cello in and out of its bag for practicing. I even have the wood in the house already, just have to borrow a friend’s jigsaw and do it.
I love the idea of the family book club for when our little one gets older. Best of luck with the cello box. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
I plan to explore more hobbies with the family. The TV isn’t really an issue as the computer and ipads. We will find more ways to explore using our hands…
I agree with the computer and the iPads being a draw and I need to make a concerted effort to put mine away at the end of the day.
I am astounded at how my blog has supplanted reading. Or, rather the minutiae surrounding the blog… I wouldn’t be bothered if I were spending all my time writing posts.
One of my resolutions absolutely has to be waste less time on the internet.
Good goal, Victoria! I have some of your posts that I need to catch up on though, so I am off to read them!
I have always been a huge reader, but the last 4 months have put the breaks on that. I am firing up the Kindle tonight!! I am going to make an effort to read to my kids more. Once they became independent readers, I mostly stopped that. Last night I began reading them a fun history of Ben Franklin, how I missed doing that! They are now 11 and 8 but they both seemed to enjoy it 🙂
As a former teacher, I can attest to the benefits of continuing to read to them at those ages. It really helps as the reading comprehension gets more difficult and you can discuss so many things. Have a good time with the Franklin bio!
I’ve been pretty good about reading, but not so good about the knitting. I miss working on a project and finishing in. I think I’ll pull out the yarn and start a pair of socks before I get a request for a new pair.
I have a pair that needs blocking and I need to sift through my sock yarn to see what I want to use and want I can pass along for sale on Ravelry.
I plan on creanting more original and easy recipes… then sharing them on my blog!
Can’t wait to read them and try them out Jeanine! Those mini quiches from the other day looked fantastic.
Hello,
I can’t sit still to knit or crochet but I do love to read. I have a Kindle and I love it! Hope you have a great year! Please visit me and link up if you have time at http://www.nanahood.com I also “liked” your Facebook page!
Blessings to you,

I will definitely check out your blog, Teresa! What have been some of your favorite books in the last year? I am looking for suggestions.
Great goal! I wish I had the patience for this hobby.
It’s a great hobby to have and I am looking forward to getting my mojo back for it.
