How’s everyone doing with their “going greener” resolutions this year? Still sticking to the goals you set or the checklist you would like to go through? This week, I cleaned out our pantries a bit and reexamined some of the small appliances we have and how I could be using them to be greener in our foods and cooking.
Enter the breadmaker and yogurt maker. These fine fellows have been in our home for just shy of 6 years. How often do I use them, you ask? Never.
Clearly, I had grand hopes of becoming a frequent bread and yogurt maker when we created our wedding registry years ago. But, I’ve never gotten around to using them. 2013 will be the year in which it changes. I promise. These will help us to have less waste since we can make our own items at home. They will give us the ability to use organic ingredients. Finally, their creations will help us to pass more green lessons on to Tomato. I have no idea what I am doing with either one of them, but I sure am looking forward to remedying that!
So, what are you working on that’s green or in the garden this week?

Thanks for hosting such a great party devoted to Greens! I shared my year in the garden post. Getting ready to order my seeds this week for another gardening year! I’ll be back to check out the other links!
Are you planting anything new this year? I have to sit down and sketch out my plan for this year.
I always debate whether I would use a breadmaker but it nice to make inventory and bring out appliances hardly used. Way to go!
Now the key will be to use them. 🙂
I would love to learn how to make my own yogurt! That’s a goal of mine this year (or this month maybe?) Guess we will see how ambitious I am.
That looks SOO cool! My kids eat soooo much yogurt, we’d probably save money with this!
I figure we could get some savings out of it too. Fingers crossed!
I use to have a bread machine and did use it to knead my dough. I still make bread not not frequently lately. I look forward to linking up with you! I can’t wait to start gardening again this year 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, Amanda. I look forward to reading more about your garden!
I love all your resolutions. You are being so productive!! I don’t have a yogurt maker, but I use the crock pot to make it and it saves us a lot of money.
I didn’t realize that you could do the crockpot yogurt. Cool!
I’m now following your pinterest board! Looking forward to seeing all the new ideas!
Thanks for following, Shai!
I love this line “Clearly, I had grand hopes of becoming a frequent bread and yogurt maker when we created our wedding registry years ago.” It makes me chuckle. Because I’ve been there – with a slow cooker.
Ha ha! Thanks Heather. We also have a meat slicer somewhere in the house. It is a wonderful dust collector. 🙂
I’d love to have a breadmaker! It’s scary what’s in bread at the grocery store, but can be so consuming to make it myself on a regular basis.
I am hoping to find a groove with it and make it a part of my routine.
I can’t wait to see your adventures with the yogurt maker!
With the cold weather coming, I think we’ll have some housebound days to give it a whirl.
I actually just borrowed a friend’s yogurt maker last week, and have not gotten around to trying it! I used to use my bread machine, but I find it much easier and faster to do my bread by hand. I also think the bread turns out better.
I will be giving your recipe a try to do alongside of the the breadmaker. I am looking forward to see how it all turns out. Thanks for linking up!
