Before the First Frost

by Becky Elmuccio on October 9, 2012

Our weather went from balmy to freezing seemingly instantly this weekend. I don’t like when we have to transfer directly from using the central air conditioning to the heat right away. So, in the rain of Sunday, I went out to bring these guys in so that they wouldn’t be taken down by the frost that may have come.

The blueberry plants will have to go in the ground later this week when it warms up again. But the blood orange plant in the middle will stay inside for the year. Our herbs didn’t make it this summer with the heat, so I will need to start them from seed again in order to have them throughout the winter indoors.

As we are inching away from the growing season in the Northeast, I’ll be sharing more posts on how to use your garden harvests in the winter and offering more green living tips.

Hi Becky! I’m a fellow PSMM member and just saw this post. I still have my peace lily outside and I need to bring it in immediately. Our weather really did go from warm to cooler fairly quickly it seems.

Oooh I really could use this, I don’t have a green thumb, but would love to try my hand at growing a small amount of herbs in our home. I’ll be following along for sure.
