TV-Free Friday: National Alpaca Farm Days

by Becky Elmuccio on September 28, 2012

As I have written in previous posts, we are choosing not to have Tomato watch TV until she is three.

So, in an effort to share some ideas of what we are doing to be TV-free, I am starting TV-Free Fridays. Some of the trips that we like to do with Tomato on nice days are to visit the zoo or the local petting zoo in order to learn more about animals, so when I saw that this weekend is National Alpaca Farm Days, I thought it would be perfect to share with all of you.

I have had the pleasure of visiting an alpaca farm in the past, and as an avid knitter, I love getting closer to the animals whose wool I use to make some of our winter gear. By visiting www.nationalalpacafarmdays.com you can search for a farm near you and check out what they are offering this weekend. In addition to learning more about a new animal, it’s FREE!!

It also happens to be Take A Children Outside Week, so this event works perfectly into that theme too! So, check your weather, find your local alpaca farm and head out for an fun family weekend to learn more about these interesting animals!

What are some animals that you have ventured to see and learn more about with your family?

We just went to the Montreal Biodome that houses 5 ecosystems with tons of plants and animals in each system. My 2 year old had lots of fun and so did we!

We have a few alpaca farms within 15 minutes – one that’s only 5 minutes from here. Will be planning to visit this weekend!

They are a great animal, although not friendly like a pet.

That’s awesome that you are limiting tv until age 3! I love your idea of sharing tv free ideas on Fridays, our baby is 13mths and we don’t want her watching tv for quite a while so I’ll look forward to some ideas you have to share!

Oh I love this, I’d love to do ‘no tv Friday’s’ that’s a great idea. And we love our little zoo’s around here. They are small, but free and the little one’s love seeing the animals!

Actually going to an Alpaca Farm day tomorrow at a place I’ve driven by often but never stopped. Don’t know why ’cause they have a shop with yarn and I LOVE yarn! Plus spinning/weaving demos and alpacas to pet. My next door neighbor has them for a spell and gave me gorgeous fleeces from her babies. Spun up into such luciousness!
