I am guaranteed to have a chocolate craving here and there.
The problem with grabbing what is usually at the convenience store is that old mantra of “a moment on the lips is a lifetime on the hips.” Plus, as we start to learn more about the ingredients that they are putting in our foods, I cringe more and more about what chemicals could be occupying my body’s space.
Recently, I had the opportunity to sample some of the great new candies offered by UNREAL.
UNREAL is produced in the US and Canada. The premise behind the company came from the founder’s 13 year old son, who wanted to prove to his dad that candy didn’t need to be bad for you. So, out went the corn syrup, the GMOs, the artificial coloring (now red coloring is made with beets, not some acronym with numbers) and the preservatives. The result: A pretty tasty chocolate treat that satisfies that craving.
UNREAL bars are marketed to be at the same price as the regular brands and will be available at the same stores. Each store will set their own price, and I already found our local Staples displaying them prominently at the check out line.
The candies that they offer are Chocolate Candy Shells (with and without peanuts), Chocolate Caramel Nougat (with and without peanuts) and Chocolate Peanut Butter cups. All are tasty, easier on the hips and the company seems to be pretty transparent about their practices. They admit that the packaging is not sustainable, but they are working on it.
So, if you need a quick chocolate fix and also want to say no to GMOs, you have a new, healthier option in UNREAL. Check ’em out!
Disclosure: UNREAL Candy sent me a sample box to review. As always, opinions are my own.
