An Eloise Greenfield Poem

by Becky Elmuccio on July 29, 2012

What is my favorite poem?

I have never been a huge poetry fan, but when I read it to my daughter in order to expose her to a variety of genres, I am learning to like it. One that she loves to hear is by Eloise Greenfield and can be found in her Honey, I Love collection. Initially, I bought this collection in order to read it for a grad course on children’s literature. 8 years later, I am utilizing it again. One of the favorites for myself and m daughter is the title poem, “Honey, I Love.” It is a longer poem, so please enjoy this excerpt.

I love
I love a lot of things, a whole lot of things
Like
My cousin comes to visit and you know he’s from the South
‘Cause every word he says just kind of slides out of his mouth
I like the way he whistles and I like the way he walks
But honey, let me tell you that I LOVE the way he talks…
