What is my worst cooking disaster?
When we were first married, we used to get an Organic Food Co-op box from Purple Dragon. The food was great, it pushed us to try things that we wouldn’t have, like kohlrabi or rutabagas (now a favorite), and I loved checking out the recipes that came with the box. At some point in the winter, we received a bag of winter stew veggies, including the aforementioned rutabaga. Somewhere along the way, I had a lentil soup recipe floating around the house.

I was very excited to make this dinner. Warm stew smells wafting through the house as 2 pounds (yes, I said 2 pounds) of lentils simmered away with the veggies. It was a perfect, cozy meal in the dead of winter. We really thought it would be a great “stick to your bones” type of meal. Oh, how right we were. While it tasted okay, DH and I only got about three spoonfuls into the bowls before he turned to me and said, “I am full. I can’t eat anymore.” It was so dense with lentils that we had to laugh, and I had made a huge pot of it. We definitely did not keep any for leftovers that week. Even now, as I mentioned to DH that we need to write about our worst cooking disaster, his instant response was lentil soup!
