Words of Wisdom

Recently, I have become a big fan of The Prairie Homestead. I love the Homestead Blog Hop that Jill co-hosts on Mondays and I find her posts to be insightful and helpful. She had a great post back in May about 22 Activities for the Country Toddler/Preschooler. Many were garden based and a few were farm specific, but I liked the overall tone that it is okay for your kids to help out with work around the home/homestead. It teaches them about life skills, and gives them a chance to explore all sorts of counting, naming and other learning opportunities. Most of all, it gave a great message that it’s okay for your kids to watch you work. It’s difficult to find a balance between keeping up a home and playing with your kids. But, I think Jill gives a good message about teamwork and teaching kids about taking care of the garden, home and other tasks in order to make a happy, healthy and interesting home for the whole family. Check out her list and see the comments for what others have offered!

That is a great article!! What an awesome message too, that we should have our kids be more involved with our tasks and chores!!

Hi Becky,
I chatted with you briefly in Philly… (I’m close to your town.) I had intentions of going through all the cards I brought home and being proactive and business-like and nine other things… but um, never did. At least in part because it was somewhat overwhelming and intimidating. (The other part being that I’m slow to ever be proactive or business-like.)

How’s your garden doing? All my chard and mustard greens bolted early from the crazy heat.
