Simple Shoes

by Becky Elmuccio on April 26, 2012

I recently came across a bummer of an update over on the Simple Shoes website. It seems that the company is taking a hiatus to retool the company. For 20 years, Simple provided quality shoes with an eco-friendly awareness and manufacturing practices. The company uses organic cotton, hemp, recycled tires for soles, eco-certified leather and suede. By using these materials, they have encouraged the use of sustainable materials and factory practices.

I have been wearing a variety of their shoes for about 5 years. I started with a pair that reminded me of the Vans that I rocked through high school. A slide on shoe definitely makes me a happy mama! So, when I saw that the company was ceasing production, I quickly took to the internet to find some pairs before they were completely extinct. The company’s website suggest Zappos.com and they have some sneakers, loafers and kids’ shoes left. The loss of a good eco-friendly kids’ shoe is definitely leaving me in mourning. Tomato has had a pair of their pink sneakers that she wears in the garden, so I am bummed that I can’t keep her in those for awhile. Amazon also has some in stock. It’s where I purchased the ones pictured below. I bought more than I need for now so that some can be tucked away for a rainy day and I don’t use them all at once.

Starting form the top left and moving clockwise, the black Flippee Sandal gives me an alternative to my Birkenstocks in the summer. The blue women’s Satire sneaker is my new everyday sneaker. It’s super comfy, goes with everything and it slides on! I also snagged the brown Sunny Side Flat to dress up some jeans.  The grey Colina pair and the blue Aloha Lace ups are my rainy day ones for when the Satires need to retire. They were all on sale and the prices are all ridiculously low. So, see if your size and style are still in stock and know that you can not only talk the green talk, but also, walk the green walk.
